Charities

I do like to do my little bit to try and support worthy charities from time to time. The most impressive thing about my article today is that it will allow you to support a given charity without having to actually outlay any money.

As many of you will know I am very much involved in the business of inkjet and toner cartridges as it is the primary source of revenue for my company.Working with the recycling companies I have facilitated a way for Refresh Cartridge customers to donate their old cartridges in order to support national charities.

Did you know that of the 60 million inkjet cartridges used each year in the UK, only about 10% are recycled? This means that 57 million cartridges get thrown away each year and end up in landfill sites or are incinerated. Inkjet cartridges will take about 1,000 years to decompose in landfill sites Read the rest

CCleaner

Ian MacMillan is one of those guys that I always like hearing from as after 228 issues of Click it is becoming difficult at times to think up new and original subjects to write about.Fortunately Ian always has a handy suggestion up his sleeve:

Hi Chris.

It is becoming quite difficult to suggest something that has never been in Click before, but perhaps you should highlight CCleaner as it is a helpful alternative to Microsoft’s Disk Cleanup utility. It is a piece of freeware available at www.ccleaner.com which I have used it for a while without any problems. As well as freeing up some disk space it can remove privacy items such as web history. Most interestingly for a piece of freeware, it contains a registry cleaner which can find and remove old registry entries. This is useful as most registry cleaners are not freeware.

Online Fax Machine

I was with a customer last weekend who struggled with jugging a fax machine and a normal telephone on the same line because once a month his mother-in-law sent them a letter via fax without warning.Often the fax would pick up the phone when he didn’t want it to and often another member of the family would pick up the phone when he really wanted the fax machine to take the call.He seemed to be getting himself in quite a muddle for the sake of just one fax a month.

This got me thinking that surely there was an easier way to deal with this without him having to get a dedicated line and having heard a long time back about online fax to e-mail services I thought I’d investigate further. Many different companies are available that offer this service so I would recommend that you do look around but today Read the rest

Readers Questions Part 15

It’s that time once again when I take the trouble of answering several questions that have been mailed to me recently. Please note that I cannot reply to individual queries as there is simply not enough hours in the day but will try and feature as many of your questions as I can in this article to help you and others that may be having similar issues.

I enjoy your articles in the Herald and even understand some of them! From this last statement you will gather that I am not very IT literate but am trying to catch up.One thing that I find very disturbing is that I keep getting messages coming up on my screen that the computer contains all sorts of gremlins, is likely to crash and as a result it tells me to download various programs such as a registry repair program from www.reg-patch.com. To date I have Read the rest
