I do like to do my little bit to try and support worthy charities from time to time. The most impressive thing about my article today is that it will allow you to support a given charity without having to actually outlay any money.

As many of you will know I am very much involved in the business of inkjet and toner cartridges as it is the primary source of revenue for my company. Working with the recycling companies I have facilitated a way for Refresh Cartridge customers to donate their old cartridges in order to support national charities.

Did you know that of the 60 million inkjet cartridges used each year in the UK, only about 10% are recycled? This means that 57 million cartridges get thrown away each year and end up in landfill sites or are incinerated. Inkjet cartridges will take about 1,000 years to decompose in landfill sites so recycling and remanufacturing them is by far the best way to protect our environment. These cartridges that are thrown away could be put to better use as by recycling you are not only helping the environment but also specific charities.

Every remanufactured inkjet cartridge you purchase from us will come with a freepost return envelope which will result in a donation being made to the charity NCH (National Childrens Home - Reg No. 215301) but alternatively if you have any additional cartridges to donate they can be sent to the address below:

The Inkjet Recycling Centre
Refresh Cartridge Collection
PO BOX 394

Please note that this address is only for EMPTY Hewlett Packard and Lexmark inkjet cartridges.

Empty Laser toner cartridges can be dropped into any CLIC Sargent (Reg No. 1107328) office or shop (the nearest I believe is in Newton Abbot but if there is a closer point of contact please let me know) to be sent for recycling - alternatively the following address can be used however please do note that they unfortunately do not have a freepost address yet:

CLIC Sargent Laser Collection
Refresh Cartridge Collection
Abbey Wood Business Park
BS34 7JU

As my last good deed for today I would like to let you all know that in a couple of weeks time I have foolishly agreed to do a kickathon as part of my karate training at Martial Arts World. The event will last around 2 hours and will consist of myself and all the other students performing 2005 high quality kicks with a short break half way though the routine.

The reason I have agreed to do this is that all proceeds will go to help the charity Childline (Reg No. 1003758) who provide an invaluable helpline for children in distress or danger and although they receive around 4000 calls a day only 2300 are able to speak to a councillor due to a lack of funds. Common problems that children call about are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends’ welfare and teenage pregnancy and so the fact that 1700 a day aren’t able to be routed to a councillor is unsatisfactory.

I would really appreciate support from anyone kind enough to put their hand in their pocket to sponsor me for this kickathon; even if you can only spare a fiver it will make the fact that I won’t be able to walk for 2 days after the event a little easier to stomach! If you fancy supporting this worthwhile charity then please DON’T send me any cash (I want it to be clear exactly where this money is going) but rather a cheque made payable to ‘ChildLine’ to 14 Roundham Road, Paignton, TQ4 6DN – Please also indicate whether you are a UK taxpayer as ChildLine will then be able to claim giftaid on your donation.
